Mind, Body, Health, & Politics Podcast

The Mind, Body, Health, & Politics podcasts is hosted by Dr. Richard Miller—author of the books “Psychedelic Medicine” and “Psychedelic Wisdom”. He is also the founder of the Wilbur Hot Springs retreat center and has been a therapist for many decades. The night before we recorded this podcast he sent me an email stating that he wanted this episode to focus on death and how psychedelic can help with the process. While we spend a lot of time talking about death we also did a deep dive on how psychedelics can help one work with fear.

Miller writes: “In this highly informative episode our guest, Jahan Khamsehzadeh, gives us the nitty gritty on the ingestion and use of Psilocybin (often referred to as the “magic mushroom”.) Jahan lays out his research in a way that is not only understandable but comprehensive. Our topics include: how the medicine affects consciousness, proper dosing and safety, frequency of experience, potential negative effects, who should not take the medicine, anxiety regarding end-of-life transitioning, effects on sexuality, and so much more. This is a must-listen for all those interested in this topic.”

Today’s episode is a deeper exploration of plant-based medicine, specifically Psilocybin, also known as “magic mushrooms.” Host Laura Reagan, LCSW-C interviews Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh, the author of The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet—An Integral Approach.

Jahan offered a fascinating and in-depth discussion of how psychedelics have been used by humans and animals since the beginning of time, their role in evolution, their current legal and illicit uses for healing, and future directions.”

The Awakening Entrepreneur Podcast

A great talk with Gary as we do a deep dive into spiritual evolution and psychedelics.

Zamin Psychedelic Podcast

Engaging with Lola of the Zamin Psychedelic Podcast (a podcast on psychedelics for Persians). She’s been reading my book and liked the section where I describe the “New Eleusis” painting by Alex Grey, which depicts the history of psychedelics. We made a quick video focused on this painting—which depicts a deep history of the psychedelic movement—from cave paintings to science. In this video I read passages where I present sections of the painting and she then translate them into Farsi and adds an image of the painting so the audience can visually follow along. The video does a great job of aurally and visually presenting psychedelics history within 20min to both an English speaking audience and the people of Iran.

PsiloHealth: Free Psychedelic Sitter Training

Since the lockdown began, a group of us (PsiloHealth) have been working on creating a free online training to educate people on how to be sitters for each other’s psychedelic experiences.

We recognize that most people cannot afford to work with a psychedelic guide or therapist and don’t have access. This is especially true for segments of the population that are in a lower economic standing—largely consisting of minorities. The way we arrived to work with this problem of accessibility is to create a FREE online training that anyone can access. The intention is for community members to begin healing each other.

The training consist of nine pre-recorded modules. We did a first round of recordings and then had a test group of 125 people give feedback, then re-recorded the material and added subtitles. I teach one of the modules. The training can be found by clicking here.

The education is free. There is an option that people can take an online test to become verified as a psychedelic peer supporter and join an online community of peer supporters for a one time $45. We are giving the training away for free but the there is a cost for on going support, including the creation of supervision groups for on going psychedelic peer supporters.

Click here for the link for this option.

Please share with this link with others. We know people are going to use psychedelics—whether they are legal or not—and wanted to bring a harm-reduction approach, and the first step is education.

The Original Psychedelic Salon Podcast

This one was personally meaningful because “The Psychedelic Salon” has been running since 2005 and had great impact on me. About ten years ago someone gave me about 90 hours on Terence McKenna talks, and most of them came from ”the Psychedelic Salon”. Those talks went on to inspire my dissertation and book.

“Today's podcast features a conversation with author Jahan Khamsehzadeh, whose recent book, The Psilocybin Connection, is a significant addition to our understanding of how psychedelic substances have aided humans throughout history and how they continue to do so.”

The Psychedelic Spotlight Podcast

“In this episode, Dr. Khamsehzadeh delves into our historical and ancestral relationship to psilocybin and theorizes how mushrooms have impacted the development of the brain. He goes on to discuss how mushroom-use gave rise to artistic and creative expression. Aside from psychedelics role in creativity and evolution, Dr. Khamsehzadeh exlpains how psychedelics can assist us with achieving self-transcendence through “peak experience”.

The Magic Mystery Tour Podcast

It was a pleasure to be invited to the Magical Mystery Tour podcast again. Because it was our second go, we got to delve a lot deeper than what I cover in my book.

This episode focuses on the way I hold medicinal psychedelic space and my personal philosophy. It was nice to be probed into that area of my life. The episode can be found by clicking here.

The Love University Podcast

Here is what the podcast host had to say about this episode:

“Have you ever thought about expanding your consciousness—thinking beyond yourself? In the popular movie, Limitless, a man who was struggling in life takes a pill that expands his cognitive abilities beyond anything he dreamed of, giving him great powers. Our fascinating guest on Love University, Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh enlightened us on the use of “magic mushrooms” (hallucinogenic) to achieve enlightenment and higher consciousness. According to Dr. Jahan, Psilocybin (the psychedelic compound in the mushrooms) has been used for thousands of years by native cultures to achieve higher understanding. On our program, Dr. Jahan discussed ways for the average person to achieve enlightenment and reduce suffering by using Psilocybin.”

The Curious Man Podcast

The host writes: “In this interview Matt Crawford speaks with Dr, guide and author Jahan Khamsehzadeh about his book, The Psilocybin Connection. For too long, psychedelics have been vilified and cast in the wrong light. This book is a comprehensive look into psilocybin and how humanity has co-evolved with it. Shown to actually create new pathways in our brains, psilocybin truly is an amazing drug that needs to better understood, this is the book to do just that. Khamsehzadeh shares his journey and 20+ years of experience in this field in an easy to understand and follow format, for even the most layperson. An exciting and thought provoking read.”

Here is an article I wrote titled “Psychedelic Therapists Must Be Trained to Set Sexual Boundaries” for Lucid News. The article calls for more training on sexuality in the field of psychedelic psychotherapy.

"Boundaries within ourselves, just as within relationships, must be honored. Many times, when using psychedelics there is an idea that resistance must be broken through. I argue that is not a loving way forward. Resistance is a boundary within ourselves. Resistance must be honored by the guide and participant. We were taught in Hakomi that honoring the resistance creates safety and trust. Those are the underlying essential ingredients that allow healing.

The resistance arose for a reason. The obstacle is the way. When honored, and the person feels safe, the resistance tends to dissolve. A person must surrender to having resistance before they can genuinely relax. Only then can the wholeness of a person authentically surrender to the process. Asking someone to self-abandon and cross their own boundaries, or the practitioner crossing the boundaries of the participant, will make the participant unconsciously feel violated."

I was invited on The Evolving Spiritual Practice podcast for a second time. We were able to do a deeper dive—this time the focus was on integration. The podcast is hosted by Ralph Cree, who has been meditating and using psychedelics for twenty five years, so it makes for interesting conversation.

On the Psychedelic Entrepreneur podcast with Beth Weinstein.

“In this episode, hear about…

How psychedelics have been a part of almost every culture’s history

A scientific explanation of how psilocybin creates a highly neuroplastic, hyper-connected brain state

How feeling a deeper sense of connection can heal; how psychedelic experiences give a sense of ecological oneness

Decriminalization, cognitive liberty & combatting fear of psychedelics with education

Serving psilocybin legally and “miraculous” psilocybin-assisted healings of treatment resistant depression

Integration, the “homework” psychedelic journeys give and how doing it is key for integration

How it is often stated “psychedelics aren’t for everyone” – but perhaps it’s a question of the right timing and container?
